For Parenthood leave at next junction

I think Matthew got his first real taste of the mishaps of parenthood this weekend.

We had decided to go up north for the weekend. We should have known it was going to be a bad journey when it took us an hour to get to the M40 because the entire South seems to be under roadworks. We had set-off late to top it all off. Matthew and Myles had tickets to the Hull City match at 2:00.

We took a shortcut through Yarnton and Cassington over by Matthew's office. Zipping down the winding country roads to avoid the big roundabout in Oxford, which is always backed up. We were pleased to make it to the A34 so quickly, but only to find it was at a standstill. Great. Myles says from the back seat "I'm not feeling so well." He tends to get carsick. We rolled down the windows a bit to get some air. There wasn't much else we could do at that point.

Finally we made it to the M40, which guess what - is also under roadworks. Thankfully it's only one junction. Myles complains that he still doesn't feel well. We asked him if we need to pull over now or should we wait till we get to the Cherwell Valley Services to get him a drink. He said he could wait.

We had just pulled into the services when he shouts "It's coming!" "Stick your head out the window," Matthew yells. I could see him struggle to get his head out the window because he was still seatbelted in. But it was too late. Myles vomited his two bowls of Crunchy Nut cereal and strawberry smoothie all over the back seat!

Matthew went mental. "I told him to stick his head out the window!" I opened the door and saw a pool of vomit on the floor. Poor Myles was covered in it, all over his pants and shoes. I took Charlotte and Myles inside so he could get cleaned up. He did well not to get any on Charlotte considering she was sat right next to him. We went into the baby-changing area so he could get changed. I had to wash his shoes in the sink, yuck.

After we got both Myles and the car cleaned up (as best we could) we set off again. This time with a shopping bag for Myles just in case. The car stunk and we still had more than 2 hours to go. Matthew had cooled off and we had a laugh because of all people Matthew is no one to complain about vomit. He is the world's worst vomiter, he could tell you some stories.

And what about your friend's parents who had to clean up all your vomit that was all over his room, or the maid that had to clean up your vomit off the balcony, stairs and sink on Cape Cod. Or that time you threw up in our bed. Matthew I don't think you've ever puked in a toilet!
